Thursday

the Pope’s been waiting
centuries for Christ’s second
coming — Pope after
Pope after Pope after Pope —
each more futile than the last

Wednesday

yearning for contact
and yet seeking to preserve
my own isolation

Tuesday

how well do I know
my friend? — his truth eludes me
— he does his own thing

Monday

treacherous walkway
stop chattering, for God’s sake
concentrate! — there were
a thousand different ways
I could and should have warned him

Sunday

my finger touches
the right key without thinking
— but by refusing
to think any further than
the keyboard — the loss is mine

Saturday

the volatile stuff
of human nature requires
handling carefully

Friday

in the clumsiness
of my effort to take part
in the mystery —
what else lies fully revealed
but the mystery itself?
